Tarmacadam is a bituminous material used in paving, also known as Tarmac™ or Asphalt. Tarmacadam is comprised of tar and broken stone which is mixed in the tarmac plant, then shaped and levelled during the paving process, usually laid out and raked evenly and then compressed by machinery such as a mechanical roller. Tarmacadam is suitable for areas to be used by vehicles, such as roads, car parks, drives and forecourts. Tarmacadam can also be used for paths, garden paths, confined spaces and footpaths.

Whilst the completed installation provides an extremely durable and low maintenance surface, which is totally impervious to weed growth and staining, the natural stone surface is approximately 10mm-30mm in thickness which does not affect existing levels thus eliminating the need for costly and disruptive excavation, unless the specific site has uneven ground and needs excavating.
